I’m coming off of a week in the AI epicenter, San Francisco, and I need to rant.
I’m so sick of hearing and reading about AI.
The AI Content Trap That’s Making Everyone Miserable
AI content consumption creates three distinct types of psychological damage for professionals. After spending a week surrounded by AI hype and scrolling through endless posts about artificial intelligence breakthroughs, I’ve identified exactly what’s making so many of us feel behind, inadequate, and overwhelmed.
The first trap is the viral template posts. You know the ones: “Claude just killed outbound for good!” followed by the predictable “comment Claude and repost for priority access!” call-to-action.
Here’s what drives me crazy about these posts: The person sharing the template is never someone who’s actually built an outbound function for a real company. Most people know these posts are full of crap. Yet they still go viral with hundreds, even thousands of comments because people desperately want the “easy” button.
I hate it.
Three Types of AI Posts That Fuel Imposter Syndrome
The template posts are just the beginning. The second category that’s destroying our collective confidence is the fear-mongering content. These are the “you have 3 years to earn millions and escape the permanent underclass” posts that chase engagement using pure fear tactics.
This messaging is especially ridiculous because it claims AI will permanently separate the “winners” and “losers” in the near future. But think about this logically: if 99.9% of the world ends up in a “permanent underclass,” then everyone loses. You think hundreds of millions of unemployed, broke Americans are going to look at a few hundred AI trillionaires and “just be cool” about it?
That’s not a world of “haves and have-nots” — that’s a setup for complete societal meltdown. And no one cares about your AI startup valuation or bank account balance during societal collapse. Imagining this future is depressing.
The third category might be the worst: the overwhelming achievement posts. I’m talking about scrolling X and reading “I installed ClawdBot on 17 mac minis and am making $3,278/hour by arbitraging prediction markets!” or “My AI Agent just built a $100k MRR business!”
I know 99% of these posts are lies or exaggerations. But they’re still overwhelming. They make everything I accomplish feel insignificant.
Why AI Creation Beats AI Consumption Every Time
Here’s what I’ve discovered about my relationship with artificial intelligence: the difference between AI consumption and AI creation is the difference between depression and excitement.
My philosophy for AI in sales is based on this perspective: for complex evaluations, people still want to talk to people. For simple evaluations, people will gravitate to the convenience of AI and automation. This means the future belongs to professionals who can guide AI through complex, human-centered work — not those who passively consume content about AI capabilities.
When I build with AI, everything changes. I love that I’m learning something new every day. I love that I can accomplish in minutes what used to take hours. I love that I can better support my teams with in-person conversations now that AI handles the bulk of my administrative work.
I love that I built an application my team uses to set quality meetings and crush discovery calls. I love that my mind races with possibilities that a year ago wouldn’t have been worth dreaming about.
The excitement comes from creation, not consumption.
The Simple Shift That Changes Everything
When I consume content about AI, I get depressed. When I create with AI, I get excited.
This isn’t just about mood — it’s about capability building. Consuming AI content is passive. You’re watching other people’s highlight reels while building nothing yourself. Creating with AI is active. You’re developing actual skills, building real solutions, and proving to yourself that you can adapt and thrive.
I can’t predict the future. I don’t know what sales jobs will look like in five years. I don’t know which SaaS companies will survive. I don’t know if I’m headed for some “permanent underclass” or a thriving long-term career.
But I do know that every minute I spend consuming AI content makes me feel sick. And every minute I spend creating with AI makes me feel amazing.
How to Start Creating Instead of Just Consuming
So while I can’t predict the future, I can control the present. And I’ll be creating.
The shift from consumption to creation starts with practical application. Instead of reading about AI capabilities, start using AI tools for real work problems. Build account plans using AI research prompts. Create discovery frameworks with AI assistance. Develop personalized outreach that leverages AI insights about your prospects’ priorities and pain points.
The goal isn’t to become an AI expert overnight. The goal is to become someone who solves real problems with AI assistance rather than someone who just reads about AI solutions.
Focus on projects where you can measure the impact. Can you cut your research time in half? Can you improve your email response rates? Can you prepare more effectively for discovery calls? These tangible improvements build confidence in a way that consuming content never will.
The best part about creating with AI is that it’s immediately practical. You don’t need to wait for some future breakthrough or worry about being left behind. You can start building solutions today that make your work better tomorrow.
Have a great week creating instead of consuming.
